SUMMER TRIPS CAR CARE TIPS

SUMMER TRIPS CAR CARE TIPS

Summer is the season of road trips. But before you venture out on the open road with your family, make sure you follow these Summer Car Care Tips.

●1- CHECK COOLING SYSTEM/RADIATOR-

As the sun gets closer and the weather gets hotter we all must stay cooler. We drink water but our cars rely on their coolant systems to stay hydrated. The first thing to do is to check your coolant levels, then move onto to hoses and connection points. Make sure there are no leaks and the hoses are in good condition
Watch your engine temperatures and the water level to make sure it isn’t decreasing, If your vehicle overheats you need to have it inspected and diagnosed immediately.  Keep a gallon of coolant and water in the vehicle for long road trips.

●2-OIL  CHANGES-

The oil in your vehicle should be changed every 5000kms. When you dont  change your car oil for long time, more dust gets ingested into the intake and deposits into the oil and enters into  the engine. When dirt is in the oil it breaks down its viscosity and will eventually erode seals and piston rings if left unattended. With this, change the oil filter too.

●3- CHECK  AIR  FILTER-

Change the air filter when you change the engine oil change. As air filters get dirty, tiny dust particles escape into the intake and find their way into the engine.

●4- CHECK IF AC IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY-

Check if your vehicle’s AC is functioning properly .The AC system is meant to be completely sealed and never leak, so if it is leaking it must be repaired asap.If you feel it's not cooling properly, take it for service at once.

●5-CHECK  YOUR TIRES-

Check your tires for wear and proper inflation. The contact pad of your tires should be square and not too narrow or bulging.  Make sure the tires are wearing evenly. Be cautious of over-inflation as the increased temperature (~160F) of the asphalt on the highways will increase the PSI by about 10psi.

●6- CHECK CAR BELTS  AND HOSES-

At every oil change, and before any long road trips, check the belts and hoses for wear and tear. Make sure the belts and hoses aren’t soft, torn, cracked, or blistered. It is better for your engine, to stay on top of them and change them before they fail.

Always, before a trip, make it a point to check your tire pressure before you start driving. Under-inflated tires can bulge out, putting pressure on the sidewalls and making them more susceptible to blowouts on hot roads. Make sure the engine oil and oil filter are changed. Also be sure the technician checks your coolant, brakes, automatic transmission, and power-steering fluids. These fluids are critical for keeping parts lubricated and preventing your engine from overheating.
Remember, When you take proper care of your vehicle, it will take care of you, and routine maintenance goes a long way to avoid costly repairs!

These tips should have you and your car raring to go! Now, stop checking your emails and get to the beach with your children and beat the heat!!!

Happy driving!
