SAFETY PRECAUTION AND TIPS WHEN DRIVING IN RAINY SEASON.

It's completely true that the rain can affect your driving so much, you often forget that it does until you get in the car on a rainy day and start driving and suddenly feel that you don't have as much control of the car as you normally do. Driving in the rain is very different from driving in the fair weather. When the road is wet, our car's tyres lose their grip on the road and your perception is dramatically reduced- it's harder to see other vehicles or even the road! Below are few  helpful useful safety precaution and tips while driving in the rain, which will come in handy for you:

  1. Rain water is mildly acidic and driving in the rain means car's paint could wear away after a long exposure. Applying a good quality Wax polish on the car before rainy season starts helps form a thin protective layer on the top of the paint that will allow the rain water to slip right off!
  2.  Make sure that the car's Wiper blades are good otherwise it could hamper your visibility as well a bad wiper blade will leave permanent scratches on your expensive wind screen.Check
  3. Check the Tire for any wear and tear and make sure to maintain the manufacturers recommended tyre pressure to maximize road grip during rain.
  4. Purchase a new set of washable rubber Mat or carpets for rainy season.
  5. Carrying more than one Umbrella in the car will help keep your passengers and the seat dry!
  6. Carrying a clean soft Cloth always to wipe the front wind screen will be helpful during this season.
  7. During rainy season there will be road blocks that may take long hours. Hence it is adviceable to carry some biscuits and drinking water in the car.
  8. When you begin a journey in the rain, your slippers or shoes will be wet and liable to slip off the Pedals. Scuff the soles on the rubber mat or carpet of the car before you start the engine each time.
  9. Stop the car before entering the flooded area and check the water level. Generally, if the water is deeper than the bottom of our car doors, it is inadvisable to attempt to drive.Never drive through moving water if you can't see the ground level. Your car could swept off the road.
  10. If you successfully pass through a deep water flood, test your brakes- they may be wet.Only driving very slowly and braking lightly at the same time will generate enough heat to dry them out. Be sure that the brakes are working properly before speeding up again.
  11. Never drive beyond the limits of visibility. At night, rainy roads become dangerous. The glare of the oncoming lights with the rain on your wind screen can cause temporary loss of visibility and it will increase drivers fatigue.
  12. Whenever visibility is poor during rain, On-ing  the headlights are the best way to let others drivers know where you are.
  13. During heavy rain, when visibility is so limited, it is safe to pull over and wait for the rain to ease. once you have parked your car, keep your car's headlights on and turn on the emergency flashers to alert other drivers where you are! Please note that you should Not turn your flasher on and drive during rain.Only your headlights should be On. Emergency flashers are ONLY for stopped and parked vehicles.

  14. Give yourself more time during rainy day.Start your journey earlier. This will allow you to drive at a slower, safe pace and cope with probability of heavy traffic.Always keep in mind that traffic is likely to be moving slower as well and possibility that your route may be flooded or jammed!
  15. Turn on your car's headlights even in light rain, this helps you to see and be seen too. One of  modern days useful light, the Day Time Running Lights, if installed, is very useful here.
  16. It takes longer to stop in the wet when braking, therefore increase your distance from the vehicle in the front and drive at a slower pace than the normal. Always brake earlier and with less force than you normally would. Not only does this increase the stopping distance between you and the car in front of you, it also lets the driver behind you know that you're slowing down.
  17. Always give a truck or a bus or any heavy vehicle extra distance.Their extra-large tires can create enough spray to block your vision completely.Avoid overtaking, but if you must overtake, do it as quickly as safety allows.
  18. Rain or high humidity can quickly cause windows to fog up inside the car.Switch on both front and rear defrosters and make sure the air conditioning is turn on. Most car's climate control system will automatically engage the A/C when the windscreen defrost function is selected. In a car without this feature, the procedure is the same,
but you may need to open your side windows to get the air moving. Most cars have build-in defroster in the front and back, but for those cars which do not have defroster in the back, put your front defroster on high and it's hot air will eventually follow the inside of the roof down to the rear windows.
  19. Always be caution after a long dry spell. During a dry period, engine oil and grease build up on the road over time. When mixed with water from a new rainfall, the roads becomes more slick.Continued rainfall will wash away the oil but the first few hours are dangerous.
  20. It is recommend to drive atleast 30 percent slower than usual driving on wet roads.
Stay on top of your car's condition.During rainy season,it's brakes, tire pressures, tire tread depth and defroster operation should be checked regularly so that you'll be ready to deal with a problem when the time comes....now that you know how to drive in the rain, take some precautionary measures to ensure that your vehicle is prepared to get you through a heavy rain.
