TIPS TO HELP YOU KEEP YOUR CAR COOL

During the summer, the car absorbs the sunlight pretty quickly from its glasses and it turns the car interior into a heated compartment within no time. The first few mintures are too uncomfortable for the owner driver and even worse for the rear seat passengers. To minimise the effects that the Indian summer-dry heat and humid weather, has on your car,the following are few points that will keep your car in good health, save you,to some extend, from the heat and keep your passengers safe on the road.

BASIC  CAR  MAINTENANCE  DURING SUMMER-

1- Check the coolant level. It's always good to get the coolant replaced atleast once a year- specially before the peak of summer as it would help keep the system running better.

2- Check the battery terminals and cables for corrosion and get these cleaned.Sulphuric acid, which usually builds up with use, corrodes the terminals and hurts the connection. This can lead to a dead battery. The air conditioner constantly battling the summer heat and blower fan working overtime takes a toll on the battery. So get it checked before the summer peaks.

3- Check the engine oil level using the dip stick and make sure to maintain the level recommended. The engine oil keeps the engine lubricated and prevents wear and tear of moving parts such as piston and cylinder. However, over a period ,engine oil loses viscosity and fine metal particles build up leading to increase in heat, caused by friction, damaging the engine.

4- Check the car tyre  pressure.Driving  on tyres with lower than optimum pressure will result in the weight of the car damaging the sidewall. In summer, it can also result in higher than normal temperature in the tyres and lead to permanent damage.

5- The Air Filter also needs regular maintenance if you drive on dusty and gravelly roads.Dry weather and fast winds causes frequent dust storms in the summer .The air filter's job is to keep the dust out of the sir that enters the engine.A choked air passage results in a drop in fuel economy.

6- Get your air conditioner serviced before the summer. It may sound obvious but many people tend to overlook the conditionof their A/C. A clogged filter or low level of refrigerant gas unnecessarily burdens an already overworked system and reduces  the cooling performance.

QUICK  TIPS  FOR  A  SMOOTH RIDE-

1- To get the best performance from your car air conditioner, it is best to find a parking in the shade and one must open the doors and windows to let the hot air that is trapped inside the car out before switching on the air conditioner as the temperature inside can be 10-15 degrees higher than outside when parked in the sun.

2- Buy a couple of Sun Shade and if car is self driven, whenever you park the car, put the Sun Shade on the front and rear  glasses. These sunshades are relatively inexpensive foldable pieces of silvery cardboard. Some comes with suction cups, others you  just need to support behind the rear view mirror. These sunshades will cut the heat build up by at least 30-40 percent inside the car.If the car is parked continuously for more than 6 hours in the same spot, it always better to cover the whole car with a car cover.

3- Always remember not to close the window to the top.Keep up a minor(1-2 cm) in glass windows, it will help in Air Ventilation flow.

4- Before you enter the car, keep the Door windows open for couple of minutes. It will give way to warm air to go out and have fresh air coming in.

5- Avoid switching the A/C during the first few mintures as you enter the car.

6- Leather seats tends to heat up more during summers. If you are planning for leather sear cover, it's best to avoid and rather go for good quality fabric seat covers which is economical an they tend to heat up less under similar condition.

7- When you park the car, spread a towel over the seat, use a smaller one to spread over the steering and  use an old socks for the gear knob. You will prevent yourself  from getting scalded when you get into the hot car later.

8- Before starting the A/C, set to maximum cooling. Then start the fan to circulate the air.Keeping too low a temperature is not only unhealthy, but also bad for environment.

9- Do not leave inflammable objects inside the car.

10- Always carry a few bottles of drinking water in the car.Water is the Universal coolant.

Stay cool this summer.
