CAR POLISHING AND WAXING TIPS

Car  Waxing and Polishing is an important part of caring for your vehicle. It helps to prevent environmental wear and tear, and with a good car Polish and Wax, you can really make your vehicle look fresh and new. However, there are somethings in particular that you need to be aware  of from the outset to avoid damaging your car.Read on for effective techniques to polish and wax your car.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POLISHING AND WAXING-
Car polish and wax are products used to help your vehicle .They will help keep your car looking fantastic, and if used regularly, your car will look like new.

  • CAR POLISH- It is used before you apply the wax coat.It is used to remove grease, dirt, scrapes, and scratches that cannot be removed from washing.Polish comes in form of creams, sprays, and liquids and contains solvents that will remove impurities to allow the paint to shine. Please note that Polish does not provide any protection to the car.

  • CAR WAX- It is used after washing and polishing to add a layer of shine to the car as well as a layer of protection. It is a type of paint sealant. If there is any dirt or stain on the paint, then the wax will seal it on the car.Wax will protect your car from U V rays and will prevent pollution and other dust from damaging your vehicle. It also minimizes the moisture that comes into contact with the paint as water causes corrosion.Using Wax will increase the life of your car's paint.

WHEN TO APPLY-

The use of polish or wax will depend on what your car needs. If there is a lot of scratches or rust then polish will be the product of choice. You should wax your car approximately every 4 months, but Polishing only needs to be done when you notice problem spots.Ultimately you should check out your car after washing but before waxing to see if you need to use polish.Scratches that are left untreated can begin to rust and may eventually form small holes.

KEY  STEPS-

Just before you start polishing your car, you need the following:
  1. A polishing sponge or soft cloth.
  2. Metal car polish and Plastic polish .

HAND  POLISHING  VS  MACHINE  POLISHING-

You may choose to polish by hand or using a machine buffer.A machine buffer may be rotary or a dual action polisher.
Polishing by hand is a time consuming activity and requires a lot of elbow grease if the intent is to achieve permanent correction.Compared to machine polishing, the result will be limited to some extent.Whether attempting to polish by hand or machine, it is always recommended to start with the least aggressive polish and then gradually move up to more aggressive ones if the desired results are not being achieved.

CAR  POLISHING-

Before you start Polishing, you need to make sure which part of your car are plastic and metal. Many modern cars have features that look like polished metal, but which are either chromed plastic or metal that has been painted  and then covered with a clear coat to reduce the chances of rusting or scratching.Once you have done this, you can gather your cleaning supplies and begin.First wash the car well and leave it for drying in the sun. After this move the car to the shade and once the sun heat has evaporated, start the  metal  polishing.Polishing is done before waxing and you want to use a pretty large amount of polish on a cloth. You want to polish using a circular movement. You do need to be careful, because if polish too much, then you may take off too much paint and expose the primer or under coat.Thoroughly polish your headlights and indicators with Plastic polish. This will remove the layer of dirt that often settles on the headlights and indicators after prolonged use.Polish your wheel hubcaps either with specialized wheel cleaner.

CAR  WAXING-

Once you are done with polishing, the car waxing can start.Car waxing used to be a rather torturous process, demanding the use of paste based, carnauba wax over a period of what felt like several days.
However, modern waxing products can be applied and removed with ease.
Some waxes  have been developed specially for different colors of the car body.Choose a wax to suit the color of your car.You can apply car wax very fast and there are many different brands and forms of wax.You do not want to apply a lot of wax as too much can actually damage the paint. It is best to apply a thin even layer using a sponge or soft cloth.

USEFUL  TIPS-

  • Before using any type of wax or polish it is important to read the directions and perform a test on a small spot. The ingredients of wax and polish all vary and may affect your cars paint in different ways.
  • Always before polishing, wash car by hand. Do not use automatic car washers(high pressure machines). They may scratch the paint.
  • Get bird poop off immediately or it will stain.
  • while applying polish or wax to the car, do not apply too much pressure as it could  scratch the paint.
  • Try to park the car in shade.Remember, the sun-light is a car paint's worse enemy.
  • Always wax in the shade out of direct sun-light for easier application and removal.
