WHAT TO DO WHEN ACTIVE POWER LINE FALLS ONTO YOUR CAR

If a power line falls on your vehicle while you're driving, do not exit until you know for sure that the line is de-energized, always do the following:
Turn on your car's hazard lights, turn off the engine and check for any smoke from the car. Once you are sure that the car has not caught fire, stay inside the car. Don't touch any metal frames of your car. Sit still in your car with your hands on your lap. If there are other passengers including children in the car, tell them to do the same. Don't try to get out of the car as if you attempt to climb down or jump off while still touching the car then you complete the circuit with possible fatal consequences. Assume it's energized and stay as far away as you can. If anyone nearby comes to help you, ask them to stay away and not to touch your car as they could get electrocuted. Energized lines can charge the ground near the point of contact and may electrocute you. Do not touch the downed power line at all. Call the Police rescue Team and the Electricity department serving the location. Let the professionals and emergency personnel deal with it. Never attempt to drive over downed power lines.  Even if they're not energized, downed wires can get entangled with your vehicle and cause further damage. The driver should stay in the cab and be perfectly safe.

If you see flames from your car, you can definitely bet that your car is on fire and you should evacuate from your car as soon as possible. When getting out, always touch only the plastic latch and not the frame of the door or the car. Remember, when touching an energized body like a car while simultaneously touching the ground, the electricity passes from the vehicle through the body and into the ground

When you want to evacuate from your car, without touching anywhere and keeping your legs together, jump away and land with both feet together at the same time. Please make sure that your body is still in the air, (not sitting in the car) when your feet touch the ground. Do not touch the vehicle while stepping on the ground, as this can create a path for electricity to run through you. Shuffle away to safety.

Keep your feet together and take small, shuffling steps until you're at least 35 feet away. You can also hop from your car till you reach 35 feet away. But make sure your both the legs touches the ground together when hopping. Do not lift your legs to move forward as taking larger steps can create a path for electricity to run through you and you will be electrocuted. Shuffle away from your burning car, keeping both your feet on the ground at all times about 6 inches apart. Once you are 35 feet away from your car, ask the next passenger do exactly the same procedure as you did.

Please note that it is always better not to come out of your vehicle unless it is on fire. Never attempt to drive the car if the power lines are on them as the car may have electricity current on it and you could easily be electrocuted and get killed. Wait till the professional people remove it safely.
